Hello, inmates!

This is the head mod speaking. As you've all noticed, I went MIA during August and for that I apologize profusely. A lot of RL issues came up and my RP presence kind of disintegrated as a result.

I will be taking the next week or so to rework the calendar and write some posts in advance for late-September! If there are any player plots you want to run in the meantime, please feel free to hit me up on discord.

Second, to get my ducks in a row and clean up the taken page, I'm asking players to just quickly check in here if they are still interested in Obsidian. Just "Checking in!" is fine and even if you play two characters you only need to check in once. If my absence has caused your interest to wane (or if you have to drop for any other reason) I completely understand there will be no hard feelings.

You have until September 8th to check in. If you wish to drop sooner, we have a drop page now as well.

VISUALOSITIES MEME

We all know what visualosities are, right? No? For all you newbies to this weird DWRP phenomenon, it's making a page filled with images that you feel represent your character, ranging from the extreme shitposting of tumblr text posts to fine art. Clear enough? Good! Here's how this works:

STEP ONE: Post a top level for your character, and link to your current visualosity if applicable. But don't just leave your comment blank -- give people some guidance! Is your character's image type 'offensively Australian'? 'Reflections of affable self-hatred'? Maybe you just really like their motif of a red bandana! People commenting to you don't need to stick to that imagery, but it sure makes it easier!
STEP TWO: Comment to others' top-levels and link them to images you think suit their characters. Ooh and ahh about what they've already got! Shitpost!
STEP THREE: There is no step three. This is a very simple meme.

IMPORTANT: Please remember to use content warnings for potentially triggering imagery! If you're on the fence about if it's appropriate, link to the image instead of posting it.

Greetings, inmates!

The purpose of this meme is two-fold: one, to plot and plan threads with the other players in the game! That part is self-explanatory. You are encouraged to use this meme to plot closed logs with other players as there is no group intro log.

And two: to start feeling out a daily routine for your characters, what kind of relationships they have with the guards and NPC inmates, and what kind of reputation they have overall! Even new arrivals will start to get a reputation pretty quickly, so don't worry if your character isn't established yet.

This sort of background planning affects things like: the reputation each block has, characters that may be punished more or less than others, how easily characters will be able to bribe guards, which characters might be pegged as good potential snitches by the guards, and so on!

What might they be doing on an average day?:

What's something about your character's behavior that the guards might like? What might they dislike?: (even if your character is generally poorly behaved, the guards may still find something to like about them! For example, if your generally violent character loves watching TV, they may intimidate other inmates to stop fighting or being rowdy in the common room. Think carefully and try for one example of why they'd both be liked and disliked! Of course, there will be some characters who are exclusively disliked and exclusively liked.)

How is your character perceived by other inmates, in their block and outside of it?: (Of course they all have varied personalities, too; some might like your character and some might not. Just generalize what you think might be their basic reputation!)

If they asked around, what might other PCs hear about your character?: (Any rumors, true or false)

Where would you like your character to end up, in terms of reputation and their role in their block and the prison as a whole?: (vague goals are fine; these don't have to be endgame goals! If your character has been here for a while ICly, you can give us a rundown of what they're already doing!)

What does your character think of the Anomaly?: (Rumors of the Anomaly and its influence on the prison have been spreading among the inmates for a long time. Some inmates revere it, some are afraid of it, some are curious and some are in denial.)
